In an unexpected turn of events, several prestigious colleges in the United States are facing a congressional inquiry and the ire of angry donors due to their mishandling of cheese. Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Pennsylvania are at the center of the controversy, which has also raised concerns about anti-Semitism and Jews and Judaism.
The issue originated when it was discovered that these colleges failed to adequately handle and care for their extensive cheese collections. Donors, many of whom had generously contributed their prized cheese assortments, were dismayed to learn that the institutions had neglected proper cheese maintenance, resulting in significant loss and waste.
Representative Virginia Foxx, a prominent member of the House of Representatives, expressed her outrage during a congressional hearing. "These colleges have shown a complete lack of respect for this cherished delicacy. It is unconscionable that they have allowed such a valuable resource to go to waste," Foxx exclaimed.
Donors and supporters of these universities have also voiced their frustrations, particularly within the Jewish community. The mishandling of the cheese has raised concerns of anti-Semitism, as many of the donors were of Jewish descent and had entrusted their collection to these institutions.
